dc.description.abstract Academic libraries play a significant role in teaching, learning, and research. Similarly, collection management is essential for enhancing user satisfaction. This study investigated the influence of information resources management on user satisfaction among postgraduate students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Library. It is imperative to provide current, easily accessible and diverse information resources in a digital information age. The study sought to assess collection management on user satisfaction in MMUST Library and specific objectives on the nature of information resources, collection management policies, user satisfaction, and collection management challenges. This research relies on the Five Laws of Documentation conceived by S. R. Ranganathan in 1931. The study used a descriptive research design with 453 people targeted and a sample of 109 respondents drawn via census and simple random sampling methods. Questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data and descriptive statistics as well as thematic analysis were applied to analyze the data. The results showed that the primary goal of the study was partly attained as it was found that although MMUST Library has a good collection of both print and electronic resources, user satisfaction is only moderate because of some deficiencies. Major findings revealed a generally well-qualified and experienced library staff, leading to quality service provision. The users were highly satisfied with basic academic resources (books, journals, reference) and print as well as electronic formats. However, they are highly dissatisfied with access to current textbooks, theses, multimedia and audio-visual resources. While the library has a clear policy framework, implementation challenges such as lack of stakeholder engagement, lack of funding and poor digitization and weeding practices limit its impact. Additionally, it was found that user satisfaction depends not just on the adequacy of resources but also on accessibility, ICT facilities and responsiveness of services. The introduction of electronic systems like OPAC, institutional repository and remote access services to enhance service delivery has been hindered by factors such as inadequate budget, ICT facilities, staff and awareness of library policies. This research concludes that while MMUST Library has achieved considerable success in collection development and digitisation, the current gaps in resource adequacy, accessibility and policy effectiveness hinder optimal user satisfaction. Thus, a balanced, well-funded and user-oriented collection policy management is essential for improving user satisfaction and academic performance. en_US
